Girl from Buda

Girl from Buda, designed specifically for the location in Budapest, is a 6m high sculpture of a young girl installed in front of the historic Chain Bridge in the city center. It depicts a young girl walking toward the bridge: is she coming back home from a night out in the Pest side of the city, or is she on a catwalk? Throughout history, artists have tried to represent the female form as a canon of beauty. In the recent past, large figured sculptures have been used as part of political strategies. Located on the point where Buda, a calmer and mostly residential side of Budapest, meets the vibrant and international Pest across the River Danube, where past is giving way to the future, this sculpture is a monument of everyday moments in the lives of young people living in the city.
